Words In ACTiON

Hey there poetry fans,

Just a quick email to let you know about 3 things:

Facebook Group: There is a Facebook group setup.  It's open to anyone.  All you have to do is 'like' it and you'll get regular updates.

Blog: For those not into Facebook I have also setup a blog.  I've already posted the next 3 events and will post reminders when they are 1 week away.

Our next event:
7pm on Wednesday, July 13th @ The Roxy (6 Mill St, Acton)

Although there is no actual cover charge we do ask for you to pay-what-you-can (around $5) or purchase some of the poet's merchandise, if they have any.  Don't forget that, despite having a feature poet each time, this event is primarily an open mic for you to share your poetry or someone else's (just make sure you give them credit).

Our feature, Beth-Anne Fischer is a native from Guelph, Beth-Anne has writing and performing poetry for a handful of years.  Not only is she is also the founder the Guelph Spoken Word series, instrumental in starting the Guelph Youth slam & the CFRU radio show Hold Your Breath, but she has also competed at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (CFSW) on 2 occasions).

Of course, if you don't to get these emails anymore just reply to this one with WIA-Remove in the subject line.

Spread the word,
Ryan Duffy, host

Upcoming Events

Hello poetry lovers,

I have booked features and confirmed with The Roxy for the next three (3) editions of WORDS IN ACTiON.  Although there is no actual cover charge we do ask for you to pay what you can (around $5) or purchase some of the poet's merchandise, if they have any.  Don't forget that, despite having a feature poet each time, this event is primarly an open mic for you to share your poetry or someone else's (just make sure you give them credit).

Wednesday, July 13th - Beth-Anne Fischer - Native from Guelph, Beth-Anne has writing and performing poetry for a handful of years.  Not only is she is also the founder the Guelph Spoken Word series, instrumental in starting the Guelph Youth slam & the CFRU radio show Hold Your Breath, but she has also competed at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (CFSW) on 2 occasions.

Wednesday, September 21st - Kay'la Fraser - Kay'la is a cheesecake fiend, a wearer of many hats and a purveyor of random acts that has been known to drop a poem or two on occasion.  She has been on many poetry slam teams.  She been on many teams who have competed at the U.S. nationals (NPS), Rusltbelt regional slam, QEW slam, and CFSW.  She writes about the dark side of the human condition while still offering hope and words of wisdom to the next generation.

Wednesday, November 16th - Rick Harrett - Rick is proof that poetry isn't just for academics but it's for everyone.  By day, Rick works on classic motorcycles (he rebuilt a 1973 Norton Commando 850 for the movie 'One Week' starring Joshua Jackson) in Hamilton.  By night, he is a purveyor of poetry.  In fact he can recite with passion many Robert Service poems by rote.  He will be treating us to some of those.  Perhaps even a Taylor Mali poem too!
